- Incisions made in the crease of your upper eyelids and just below the lashes in the lower lids
- Removal of excess fat and skin
- Closure of the incisions with very fine suturing, to minimize scarring
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is another option for eyelid surgery in younger patients with thicker, more elastic skin. In this procedure, which only corrects the lower lid:
- An incision of the inner lower eyelid leaving no visible scar
- Excess fat is removed
- Fine sutures may or may not be needed to close the incision
- Ask your surgeon if this procedure is right for you
Eyebrow Lift and Forehead Lifts
A typical eyebrow lift is done as an outpatient and takes 1-3 hours, but may be longer if you decide to compliment the lift with other beauty enhancing cosmetic surgeries. Local anesthesia with sedation or general sedation may be used, depending on the circumstances and Dr. Tarbet’s preference. Patients can expect to be in the comforts of their own home within hours following the surgery, stitches will be removed in approximately one week. Though you will be able to notice a more youthful, rested looking appearance within days, continuous healing and improvement occurs for up to a year.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
In the endoscopic brow lift, the surgeon will make 3-5 short incisions in the hairline. The surgeon can insert a camera into one of the incisions in order to visualize the working space, and then uses a different instrument to manipulate the tissue through the other incisions to lift and rejuvenate the eyebrow, eyelid, and forehead region.
Face Lift & Neck Lift
The facelift, technically known as “rhytidectomy,” has become a well-known, widely used procedure designed to reverse some of the signs of aging, such as sagging skin, extra fat deposits, folds, creases, and wrinkles. To “grow old gracefully” now has new meaning!
In addition to the standard facelift, now small incision techniques and mini facelifts are available for less downtime for the patient.
Incisions are made in areas that are inconspicuous and easily covered by hair. If you are having neck work done, there may be an incision made under the chin. If your hair is very short, you may want to consider a little bit of growth to effectively hide your scars.
Bandages are placed loosely over the head to minimize bruising and swelling during the immediate healing process, typically for 1-3 days.
Clostridium botulinum Type A is transformed into a safe and therapeutic form we know as Botox. The procedure is quick and simple. Various options exist to numb the area and to minimize discomfort. Then narrow gauge, or tiny needles will be inserted directly into the muscle, and Botox injected. The Botox blocks a chemical called Acetylcholine which normally causes muscle contraction which causes wrinkles.
The procedure takes 10-15 minutes depending on the number of areas injected. Many women and men utilize their lunch hour to regain a youthful look through Botox. Results generally appear within 7 days, and may last up to 6 months. Recovery is immediate; there is no down time.
This safe procedure has been used by experts for over 20 years for various medical and cosmetic conditions. However, as with any procedure there can be risks, so it is advised that Botox only be administered by medical professionals.
Restylane or Juvederm
Several injectable fillers are available in the United States to temporarily reverse the signs of aging by adding volume and smoothing out wrinkles. Restylane is a popular choice in that it is made from hyaluronic acid, a natural molecule found in most of our bodies; it uses the body’s own moisture to maintain shape and lasts longer than most other fillers. Restylane is commonly used to:
- Define and add volume to lips
- Fill small depressions; folds
- Fill the hollow beneath eyes
The Restylane procedure is similar to other injectable procedures in that a topical anesthetic may be applied to the treatment area to minimize the pain of the injections. The doctor uses tiny needles to inject the hyaluronic acid into wrinkles, nasolabial or other folds of the skin. It fills out the skins depressions giving you a smoother appearance almost instantly!
Sculptra, or Newfill, is one of the newest injectable fillers which works by correcting the signs of lipoatrophy, or fat loss, of the face. It is commonly used for the aging population and patients whose collagen and fat tissue have been damaged or scarred secondary to injury or disease. Sculptra restores volume and re-contours areas such as:
- Sunken cheeks
- Indentations of the temples
- Hollow eyes
- The hands
Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic-acid, which is a synthetic material that has been used in medical procedures for years. It works by stimulating your own skin in new collagen production causing thickening of the skin. Skin testing is not required before use and it is FDA-approved.
The doctor will select numerous injection points to be treated as well as choose the amount of Sculptra to be used for the procedure. Before the injections, the areas of treatment can be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The filler is then injected into the deeper layers of the skin. After the procedure patients may be advised to apply ice to minimize swelling and massage the area to help promote distribution.
